I cannot believe that another Christmas has come and gone and it is only a few days till another year is over. We survived the end of the world (LOL) and now it’s time to plan for the year ahead.
So have you got your marketing plan ready for the next 6 months? Or do you struggle to plan that far ahead?
One of the simplest ways to set up a marketing plan is to create a calendar – start with an A4 sheet of paper and divide into 12 months or into quarters and write a list of things to do in each month or quarter.
For example in January you can start preparing for Valentines so you can you could think about the following for example:
Creating a marketing promotional plan for Valentines
#1. Get the artwork designed for your Valentines promotions
#2. Do variations of the artwork – for example – create a Facebook cover, Twitter background and cover, covers for any other social networks, Facebook post, image for blog post – to view sizes take a look at this social media image size guide
#3. Create a corresponding landing page on your website for the promotion
#4. Create a blog about valentines with ideas for gifts, food, creativity and so on (depending on what your business is)
#5. Get promotional leaflets printed so you can either post these out or take them with you to networking events
#6. Create a Pinterest board about Valentines
#7. Set up your email newsletter to send out 6-8 weeks before valentines so you can start promoting it
#8. Create a follow up email to send out nearer to the time
#9. Compile a few posts with images or video that you can send out on your social media networks
#10. Create a competition or promotion for Facebook
Then you need to get your digital marketing plan in place as well:
- a schedule for your blogs, emails and social media networks.
- The most important thing to remember is to ensure you are consistent
- Be realistic about what you can do and set time aside for this each day, week or month depending on what suits you
A Basic Monthly Digital Marketing and Social Media Plan
- 1 post per day
- 3 comments/likes/shares per week as your own page on other pages
- 3 tweets per day
- 1 Mention or Retweet per day
- Follow at least 10 new people each week
- 1 post per day
- 3 shares, likes or comments on others posts per week
- Connect with at least 3 new people each week
- 3 comments per week on LinkedIn Answers or in groups
- 1 blog per week or every 2 weeks to start off with
- Share blog post via all social networks and you can include in emails as well
- 1 email per month
Prepare as much as you can in advance, schedule what you can or if you are away (but don’t become a robot) and then spend a few minutes at the start or the end of each day to just check networks and do some engaging.
We all want to improve our marketing, but learning how and where to FOCUS our efforts can be quite hard. It is all about being consistent and keeping on at it and not just giving up because you have only a few likes or people are not engaging with you. It does take time to gain some momentum and also to establish what works for your business. It is important that you measure what you do so you can see where to improve and where you need to spend more or less time and budget.
